Preheat & Prepare Pans:
Preheat your oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
Make the Cake Batter:
In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Add eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract; beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
Stir in the boiling water (the batter will be thin, but that’s perfect).
Bake the Cake:

On a serving platter, place one layer and spread 1/2 cup of cherry pie filling over it. Repeat with the remaining layers.
Frost the Cake:
In a bowl, beat the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
Frost the top and sides of the assembled cake with the silken whipped cream.
Garnish & Serve:
Sprinkle 1/2 cup chocolate chips over the frosting and garnish with additional cherries if desired.
